Sharm El Sheikh hotels for great holidays
Some of the world’s best diving spots can be found in Sharm el Sheikh. Everyone who comes here is captivated by the coral and sealife on view. Corals can be seen a metre from the surface going down to the sea bed 20 metres below.
People often prefer Egypt holidays for many other reasons that just diving, for example, Nile cruises are a popular choice.
There are fish all over the reef that can be seen from the surface as well as from a dive. To compliment your diving or snorkeling holiday, stay in Sharm el Sheikh hotels that are of a high standard and reasonably priced.
The diving is from the Straits of Tiran in the North to Ras Mohamed in the South. There are regular excursions into the Gulf of Suez to dive the wrecks of Dunraven and Thistlegorm near the region of Abu Nuas.
Here is a list of guidelines to follow when diving in Egypt:
- Perform a pre-check on your equipment and that of your companion
- Limit your depth to your level of training or experience. Generally there is a 30m limit
- Don’t touch the reef or you may damage it or suffer injury yourself
- When you reach 5 metres, perform a safety stop for about 3 minutes. Do this close to the reef or on the mooring line.
- Do a buoyancy check while on the safety stop. When you have finished the dive at 5m, if you still have some air in the BC you should remove a kilo of lead from the belt.
- Make your ascent along the mooring line or close to the reef. Avoid the ascent in open blue water as there is a danger from the boats.
- Swim back to your boat on the surface and not a few metres underwater. You risk injury if you swim back under water because the skipper can’t see you.
- When you are back onboard, login with the Dive Master using the standard log-sheet.
